One of the tenets of FSU football, as taught by D/C Mickey Andrews, is that players tackle until the "echo of the whistle". That leads to a lot of vicious marginally late hits because of the aggression it inspires. Wuerffell faced it every year, and twice in the championship year, but Spurrier adjusted in the second game by staying mostly shotgun and emphasizing quick release.

As I watched Florida's spring game that year I remember being mostly impressed with Wuerffel's "situational awareness". Typically defenses dominate spring games, for a variety of reasons, and this was no exception. But whenever the blocking broke down, Wuerffel seemed to know exactly how to avoid the tackle and had a mental clock going to tell him which receiver would be coming open and where. Andrews' bell-ringing strategy disrupted that timing in the first meeting. The adjustment for the second game (and Wuerffel's accuracy) kllled FSU in the second game for the championship.Richardnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15377771.post-55777794996692018372009-06-09T10:28:36.007-04:002009-06-09T10:28:36.007-04:00Yeah, but who's complaining?Yeah, but who's complaining?Tylerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08378847966505298991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15377771.post-55224442793571339442009-06-09T00:20:46.270-04:002009-06-09T00:20:46.270-04:00I thought I was the only one to click on "mod...I thought I was the only one to click on "models" and expect to see the algorithms laid out for me.Vince Mullinshttp://www.fantasycollegeblitz.comnoreply@blogger.com
