Which teams do you think are terrible at playing the zone blitz?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15377771.post-29188399647128140272009-02-04T20:53:00.000-05:002009-02-04T20:53:00.000-05:00Looking at it closely, I believe it was a well des...Looking at it closely, I believe it was a well designed play to take advantage of a tendency that the Cards must have shown over the year.

- The outside CB looks like he is playing the RB swing pass, as he doesn't follow the slant as much as I thought he would- he almost squares up after the receiver crosses his face, as if he was expecting inside help

- The inside CB looks like he is playing the quick out, as he flips his hips quickly. I believe the steelers were expecting a speed out/slant rub combo on the goal line.

- 92 threatens, and then takes two steps forward, so the slot running the hot route would think that he is coming, so cuts his route off quicker. He wouldn't be able to adjust his hot route, as the read (OLB shooting) has occurred, so he went with what he saw.

The more I look at it, the more I believe that it was a well thought out play to take advantage of a reaction to blitz.

Thoughts?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15377771.post-74753716624595470002009-02-04T20:22:00.000-05:002009-02-04T20:22:00.000-05:00I thought the hot failed his route, he's supposed ...I thought the hot failed his route, he's supposed to under the OLB(as you noted prior). Warner was facing a 3-4 instead of the 4-3 so there was an extra ILB and the working Will and Mike could change dramatically on a given play.

The only thing to fear max cover at the goal line is a running Qb. The Steelers ran Ben at the goal line during the game as one form of trying to answer that coverage.

-Mr.MurderAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15377771.post-69464390401679313682009-02-04T19:57:00.000-05:002009-02-04T19:57:00.000-05:00Ha well, I thought it was subtle enough that the p...Ha well, I thought it was subtle enough that the pun wouldn't go over too poorly.
